There are all kinds of great museums in San Francisco, but the de Young Museum, the fifth most-visited art museum in the nation, stands out in a couple of ways. First off, it has a vast amount of art, ranging from American sculptures and paintings to Oceanic and African art, which makes it easy to spend a full day there. Plus, it has the Hamon Observation Tower, an incredible glass-walled space with 360 degree panoramic views of downtown San Francisco, Golden Gate Park, the Bay, and the Marin headlands, giving visitors arguably the best view in the city. Located about twenty minutes from our San Francisco area hotel, the museum's current special exhibition is a survey of celebrated painter J.M.W. Turner's later work, which runs through September 20th.
